Food tour for families - private or joined
Family Night Market: by car, early, with children
Three and a half hours, starting early enough for young children. A car instead of scooters, a guide who knows what small eaters like, and the Bai Truong night market, where seafood is cooked to order and there is room to sit down between plates.

Why this tour exists
Our motorbike food tour takes nobody under twelve, and most families with young children would not want to put them on a scooter in town traffic anyway. That left families with a cooking class or nothing. This evening fills the gap: a car with a driver, an early start, a market where you can sit down, and a guide whose job is partly to find the food and partly to keep a five-year-old interested in it.
The Bai Truong night market sits along the Sonasea walking street, close to the resorts of the Long Beach south, and has more than a hundred stalls in two parts, one for food and one for shopping. The food side is the draw: grilled cobia, crab and squid, crab noodle soup, crab fried rice and wax coconut, with seafood cooked to order at the stall. Plates run from about 100,000 to 500,000 dong depending on the seafood, which is why it helps to have someone who asks the price first.
What children usually eat
| Dish | What it is | Why it works for children |
|---|---|---|
| Banh canh ghe | Thick rice noodles in a mild crab broth | Soft, warm, not spicy |
| Com ghe | Fried rice with crab meat | Fried rice is fried rice everywhere |
| Grilled squid | Squid over charcoal, cut into rings | Chewy, smoky, fun to dip |
| Wax coconut | A coconut with soft, jelly-like flesh, eaten with a spoon | A drink and a pudding in one |
| Something sweet | Che, rolled ice cream or fruit | The reward for trying the rest |
Adults get the same plates plus anything stronger they want to try - grilled fish with chilli salt, sea urchin with scallion oil. Nothing is spicy unless you ask, and the guide orders a plain rice or noodle dish for any child who has had enough of new things.

The evening, hour by hour
Day 1
Family Night Market, 17:00 - 20:30
Children choosing a squid and watching it go on the grill
Pick-up at about 17:00. The market is close to the Bai Truong hotels, so the drive is short from there; from Duong Dong it is about twenty minutes. You arrive while the stalls are setting up and the tables are free, and start with the noodle soup and a coconut.
From about 18:15, when the grills are hot, the guide takes the children to the seafood counter to choose and watch it weighed and cooked. Dessert comes at about 19:30, a last walk along the lit street, and you are back at your hotel by 20:30 - early enough for small children to sleep.

Common questions
Questions travellers ask most
What is the youngest age you take?
Any age. Children under 4 are free and share from the table; 4 - 11 pay the child rate.
Can we bring a buggy?
Yes. The market is flat and the walk is short. Tell us when you book so the car has room for it.
Is anything spicy?
Only if you ask for it. Chilli comes on the side.
Do I need cash?
Not for the food - the guide pays. Most stalls take cash only, so bring small notes if you want to shop.
